According to NEC 240.4(B), when the ampacity of a conductor does not match a standard overcurrent device rating, the next larger standard rating may be used if the conductor ampacity is over:

• For any conductor when no exact standard size matches
• When conductor ampacity exceeds 800 amperes
• When the AHJ approves the installation in writing
• Only for conductors 2 AWG and larger
