A long-term care rider on a life insurance policy allows the insured to access a portion of the death benefit if they:

• They are diagnosed with any chronic illness lasting more than 90 days
• They have been hospitalized for more than 30 consecutive days
• They are unable to perform two or more activities of daily living or have cognitive impairment
• They are over age 65 and wish to supplement Medicare benefits
