The Texas Life, Accident, Health, and Hospital Service Insurance Guaranty Association (and its P&C equivalent) protects policyholders when:

• Any insurer licensed in Texas fails to pay a claim
• Only life and health insurers, not P&C carriers
• All insurers operating in Texas regardless of admitted status
• An admitted insurer becomes insolvent; surplus lines carriers are not covered
